Description:
Pre-Determined Policies

Decide which way the world will lean before the first day of your campaign. One choice in the lobby points every AI nation down the ideological road you picked.

The idea

In a normal Victoria 3 game you never really know who is going to turn communist, who is going to turn fascist, or when. It creeps up on you over the decades. This mod takes the guesswork off the table: you set the mood of the whole world before you press play.

How to use it

Open the Game Rules panel when you set up a new game and choose one option:

  • Vanilla (default) — nothing is prescribed. Every country finds its own way, exactly like the base game.
  • Vanguardism — every AI nation leans toward the Vanguardist left.
  • Communism — every AI nation leans Communist.
  • Anarchism — every AI nation leans Anarchist.
  • Fascism — every AI nation tilts Fascist.
  • Ethno-Nationalism — every AI nation tilts Ethno-Nationalist.
  • Conservatism — every AI nation settles into the Conservative status quo.
  • Historical — each nation starts on the path its real 1936 government took: the Axis powers Fascist, the Soviet Union Vanguardist, Kemalist Turkey Ethno-Nationalist, and everyone else conservative.
  • Absolute Insanity — every nation is rolled at random, one independent draw each, for a world that makes no sense at all.

Your own nation is never touched: you always choose your own path. In multiplayer every human player stays free too, and only the AI is steered.

What it feels like in play

The world doesn’t flip overnight. Your choice sets the direction each AI nation drifts, and that drift plays out across the years of a campaign the same way an ordinary radicalisation would. Left-wing turns grow out of the labour movement, right-wing turns out of the establishment. Give it time.

Why it exists

Half the fun of a grand-strategy campaign is having someone to root for and someone to root against. Vanilla makes you wait a few decades to find out which is which. This is for players who would rather set the stage first and then go to war with it.

Compatibility

  • Multiplayer-safe. The random option uses the game’s synchronised randomness, so every player ends up in the same world.
  • Adds a single game rule and overrides no base-game files, so it loads happily alongside almost anything. The only mods it could disagree with are ones that rewrite how nations pick their ideology.
