Description:

A smart futuristic jet that slightly replicates aerodynamics

Never has there been a vanilla vehicle in Scrap Mechanic that could fly freely like an airplane while still maintaining the ability to balance on its own. This is what inspired the creation of this build and led to the addition of a few more never-before-seen features.

Features
  • VTOL and strafe movability
  • Yaw-pitch-roll movability
  • Anti horizontal and vertical strafe system
  • Gyroscopic auto-balancing
  • Auto take-off when riding forward
  • Auto sticking low hover mode
  • Auto retracting landing-gear
  • Guns with anti-recoil system
  • Magic floating cockpit window

Controls

WSAD steering
Buttons (NUMPAD configuration highly preferred):

  1. Strafe left   ‭‭‭- roll left*
  2. Go up ‭  ‭  ‭‭- pitch up*
  3. Strafe right  ‭‭- roll right*
  4. On/off flight system
  5. Go down   ‭‭‭- pitch down*
  6. Guns
  7. Open cockpit

* Roll and pitch only work when holding forward while flying

Instructions
  • To gain access to the seat stand on the sensor behind the cockpit window.
  • To enable flying turn on flight system with button 4.
  • To automatically take-off turn on the flight system and hold forward for 5 seconds.
  • To go into low-hover mode fly below 30 blocks heigh and don’t press button 2 or 5.

Technical specifications
  • Uses a pixel-perfect gyroscope that never breaks. It uses 2 steps, which means it has an extra set of sensors, one set to detect if the jet is rotated more than 1 degree, and another set to detect if the jet is rotated more than 30º. The gyroscope has a 70º range before it becomes ineffective.
  • Uses a suspension glitch roll/pitch system (a modified version of my omnidirectional steering module). It uses 2 steps, which means it has 2 different roll/pitch power settings, one for slow rolls/pitches and one for fast rolls/pitches. The gyroscope is directly connected to this system and so is able to do subtle and heavy balance corrections.
  • Uses 1 stabilizer glitch to cancel out shocks and to aid in smooth gyroscopic balancing.
  • Uses my multi accelerometer to cancel too heavy gyroscopic corrections and to help with height control during low hover mode.
  • The magic floating cockpit window uses a glitch I’ve very recently learned about in one of InvisibleNark’s creations.
  • 225 logic blocks, 29 sensors, 18 controllers, 11 timers.

About

Has it become what I wanted? Not quite. I wanted this to do stunt manoeuvres like loopings and rolls effortlessly, but also going for smooth auto-balancing has its own toll. Having the freedom to roll and pitch adds a whole new difficulty layer to auto-balancing. Theoretically, you need to know how much force is needed to counteract each individual swing and be able to exactly apply it. Something this thing is actually able to do roughly which is already quite amazing for vanilla Scrap Mechanic. Unfortunately ‘roughly’ isn’t enough and is the reason I had to incorporate one stabilizer glitch to absorb shocks, which is also its burden causing its limited stunt maneuvrability.
