The Age of Enlightenment
NOTE: For "Better UI" mod users, the mod needs to be loaded before in the mod loading order to work. Make sure The Age of Enlightenment is on top of your mod list at the EU4 launcher.
Original age set skips from "Age of Absolutism" directly to "Age of Revolutions", which I have always seen as historically over-simplistic, being the first one clearly 17th century-oriented, and the latter one with a totally napoleonic ability set, letting the in between space of 18th history somewhat empty, or prematurely filled with "revolutionary" flavour, either for design choices or balance issues(keeping age duration equally distributed).
This mod aims to fill this space and give the 18th century its own personality and flavor, specially its first half, by adding a whole new age: The Age of Enlightenment.
- New "Age of Enlightenment" era, between the age of Absolutism and the Age of Revolutions, with its own objetives and abilities.
- Age start date is 1705 and requires Enlightenment institution to be spawned.
- Great minds: having three hired advisors with level 3 or more.
- Land reforms: have every core province with at least 10 development
- Merchant fleet: own at least 80 light ships.
- Enlightened ruler: ruler has at least 4/4/4 skill level, or has "free thinker" / "erudite" personality trait.
- Early imperialism: have provinces in at least five continents.
- Scientific revolution: have 25 innovativeness or more.
- Early industrialization: at least 40% of total income from production.
- Population census edict: Allows the "Population census" edict, which provides +15% local manpower modifier and +25% local tax modifier.
- Prestigious court: +2 possible advisors
- Army professionalization: +30% drill gain. +15% mercenary cost.
- Classicism art: -1% prestige decay
- Rise of trade companies: -33% trade investment cost
- Repopulation policies: -15 % state maintenance cost. +10 colonial growth.
- Trade liberalization: +15% trade efficiency. -20% domestic trade power. -5% desire liberty for subjects
- Spanish coastal forts(Spain only): +100% blockade force required. +50% hostile disembark speed. +1 hostile fleet attrition. Applies to subject colonies too.
- British redcoats(GB/England only): +1 infantry fire.
- Prussian discipline(Prussia only, vanilla, brought from Age of Revolutions): −20% Fire damage received.
- Western openess(Non Western/muslim only): +50% institution spread. -50% institucion embracement cost. -3 mercantilism on adopting.
- Enlightenment age begins 10 years after Enlightenment institution appears(roughly 1710)
- As "Prussian discipline" ability was brought from Age of Revolutions to the Age of Enlightenment, the old ability "Colonial assemblies", only for colonies, was put in his place, in order to more accurately depict American/colonial revolutions, while providing Prussia earlier with the bonus, which more accurately depicts its resistance over Austria and Russia before 1770(e.g. Seven years war).
