Description:

Nuclear Heating Plant with a heating power of 2040 GJ/day. With it’s 34 big heat pipe connection, it can feed a large city with district heating. Nuclear Heating Plants are not cheap, using the special integral thermal reactor AST-500, which also companies in the USSR originally failed in the forst attempt to build it. So it costs around 600.000 RUB and make only sense for big cities to heat.

General decription of Nuclear Heating Plants:
EN: Nucler Heating Plants (in the USSR AST) was a concept for heating of large cities. Two projects in the citys of Gorky (today Nizhny Novgorod) and Voronezh where build but never finished, because outside of a planning economy it’s not competive to other heating sources from coal, oil or gas. Both plants comprising of two AST-500 heating reactors. This heating plant is a replica of the station at Gorky. The AST-500 heating reactors whith it’s passive and integral design was well ahead of it’s time and very complex. With it’s safety features, it was possible to build it 2 km from city boundary. After the end of the USSR, the construction was suspended. At Voronezh, the first democratic referendum of Russia forced the cancallation, at Gorky construction was not resumed after 1991.
