KCS EMD SD70 ACe Freight Train
Kansas City Southern SD70 ACe
Kansas City Southern is the smallest Class-1 Railroad in north america, with the majority of it’s lines covering the mid southern United States and also going as far down as the Panama canal. One of the locomotives commonly employed by KCS is the Electro-motive Diesel SD70 ACe. The EMD SD70 ACe is a special duty locomotive produced by Electro-Motive Diesel (GM’s rail branch) to fit the specifications for a modern freight train that could compete with General Electric’s Dash-9 and Evolution series. It’s iconic features include the nose protruding from the lower cabin, a final fan behind the flared radiators, and what really separates it from the GEVO and Dash-9 series, it doesn’t blow up or catch on fire commonly from crappy fuel pumps and turbochargers. This 1:1 scale recreation of the SD70 ACe has plenty of tractive effort, fuel, and details. It stands out from the rest and is sure to be able to pull anything you put behind it, and if it cant, just throw on another one and use the slave system to control that one from the other’s cabin. The slave controls are also backwards compatible to all of my current locomotives. All and all, i spent a long time making this train perfect, and i hope you enjoy it as much as i enjoyed making it.

Specifications
Coming equipped with 4 wheelbases, 2 large engines, plenty of fuel, tractive effort and cabin space, this 1:1 scale SD70 ACe will fulfill all of your freight needs, and fulfill them in style. the generator can put out upward of 1500 Units but comes tuned down for fuel efficiency. It is able to power the traction motors to full throttle so for my friends who like their generators extra powerful, (you know who you are), simply gear it down a few gears. Keep in mind i use the old gearboxes because the new ones are garbage. this thing pulled my 127K unit weight car at over 30mph making it my strongest locomotive yet. It is capable of reaching the arctic and hits top speeds in the 180 MPH range. A little inaccurate to realism.. just a bit… but its the only way i can get her pulling so much weight. On the bright side it halves travel time. The train comes equipped with plenty of supplies such as thermal clothing, radios, repair supplies, even medical supplies. This train should be able to pull whatever you are hauling and if 1 locomotive isnt enough, the engine slave system allows you to connect to other locomotives allowing you to control multiple at a time to increase your towing capability. Also worth noting it is backwards compatible to all of my locomotives despite a small refining. Also one other thing, i slightly modified the design of the lower cab away from the real one to increase practicality. the difference is relatively minuscule but i removed a seemingly useless door that is on the real thing and added shelving in the corners. Also turned the electrical room into a utility room. still the right size and in the right place.
Instructions
This one runs very similar to my GP40, flip on the breakers, turn the key, use the reverser to change direction, and use the throttle and brakes to control speed. Keep in mind that the train gets up to full speed at around 40-45% throttle so try to keep the throttle as low as possible without losing speed for a great increase in efficiency. Also the connectors and cable anchors can be powered if you need to provide power to the rail cars being you or in front of you. The slave computer is self explanatory. Anyway that is about it to get it running.
Slave System:
both engines must be on. press toggle slave system on the slave. defaults to front connector input, can choose rear connector or radio signal. if radio then input channel into the slave. input that channel into the master locomotive’s slave computer as well. if the slave locomotive is facing the other way press invert direction on the slave. finally make sure the master does not have the slave system button toggled. that button tells the slave computer whether or not the locomotive is sending or receiving data.
Conclusion
Around mid fall, while i was helping set up cameras and equipment so our school could live stream the impending football game, i was daydreaming about making a train in this game. Although this was not attempt number one and i knew i wanted to make this one special, never did i expect to make something that got this much attention and i don’t know what to say. Thank you so much for helping me get this train as popular as it has become. it means the world to me.
Oh boy was this a project to make. i had to improve so many flaws in my technique to get this thing to the point it is at. I really hope you enjoy this train as much as i enjoyed making it. also i will link all micro controllers i used below. Thank you so much for subscribing.
P.S.
So the initial heat of the workshop boom is over and the train is falling from weekly popular and i cannot thank you guys enough for helping me not just reach the front page, but literally reach the top. we held number one for about half a day or so. not only that but 3K+ subs? I don’t know what to say. I never expected this to be such a hit. I cannot thank you enough for helping me reach something seemingly unattainable. This train was only the start, you wait. I found what i am good at here, and i have something special in the works and nearing completion. I’m not done in the train game. Expect more quality, scale locomotives from me in the future. i’m just getting started.
