LNER D49 ‘Shire’
Come to the shire!
This locomotive was commissioned by RadarTheRat, and I think he has very good taste.
The D49 was designed by Gresley to pull intermediate express trains after the grouping act of 1923. The engine was designed as a 4-4-0, in an economic move over a 4-4-2 Atlantic design.
Finally finished in 1927, the first ‘Shire’ rolled off the production line.
