Choose your relationships
Welcome, dear traveler, to Choose your Relationships!
This is an event mod for the game Wildermyth I created a short while ago and that I now intend to share with you. As the name suggests, the events featured in this mod are all based on deepening – and maybe changing – the relationships between your Wildermyth heroes.
The events that I created do not intend to stick out, but rather blend in with the style of the core game. You will not see anything wild or crazy here – no sudden greek mythology, no apocalypse scenario and certainly no musical number. In best case, you won’t even notice that the mod is there, except that maybe you will see some events which you haven’t encountered before.
Currently there are six events, they are all customized to some degree, depending on the personality of your heroes (and some other things). There might be more in the future. As mentioned above, they all focus on hero relationships, since I found that Wildermyth really shines in that regard and I wanted to let the player actively interfere with that aspect of the game to weave exactly the story he or she desires. I will only name them in the description; the spoilers hide the requirements that each and every event has (in case you wonder why you might never see them).
– Dancing Shadows (before a battle) requires: Forest Tile (broadleaf forest or pine forest), 2-5 heroes – 1 Coward without romance/rivalry, 1 potential hero for romance/rivalry with the coward
– One to lead us (before a battle) requires: 3-5 heroes – 1 Leader without romance/rivalry, 1 potential hero for romance/rivalry with the leader
– Scouting Duty (before a battle) requires: Forest Tile (broadleaf forest or pine forest), 2 heroes – 1 hunter (min Lvl 2) without romance, another hunter (min Lvl 2) who is a friend of the first hunter and a potential romance; includes a followup on one of the choices
– New directions (before a battle) requires: No Forest Tile (either grass, foothills or swamp), 3-5 heroes – 2 siblings, both without a rivalry, both at max 35 years old and not being good friends already (max. friendship lvl. 1); includes a followup on one of the choices
– Alone Time (after a successful battle) requires: 3-5 heroes – 1 Loner without romance/rivalry, 1 potential hero for romance/rivalry with the loner, no maimed or dead heroes (from previous battle)
– Soft spot (scouting an empty tile) requires: 2-5 heroes – 2 friends (max. friendship lvl. 2), both without a romance, one of which has the pet critter
Most of these events tend to occur early in the game. This is not because they have a higher priority or anything, but simply due to the very nature of the events: Since they let you, the player, define relationships, they have to appear early on, before the game handles it otherwise. However, exceptions prove the rule (they might also appear for newcoming recruits later in the game, for example)! Of course, you can also turn off the random rivalries/romances that the game triggers (via the option in the character sheets); this might make these events trigger more frequently and at different times. They have all been tested in game and should work just fine.
One last thing: Since English is not my first language, there might be some typos or odd terms and formulations in the events, although I did my best at hunting those down. Should you encounter such, please just send me a short notification, and I will look into it – Wildermyth is all about atmosphere, and a typo can easily destroy that.
Also, this is my very first mod, so please – bear with me. Constructive feedback of any kind is very welcome, I’d love to hear what you guys think or if you might even have ideas for further events!
