Description:

As a part of it’s modernization program in the mid 1970s, Northumbria Rail imported the TEP70 diesel locomotive.
The TEP70 only hauled passanger coaches in the NRSkyBlue livery, they became a commonsight on the North-east and yorkshire line.
In 1986 TEP70s were introduced in to the Intercity fleet, they served on the NE&yorks and Western lines. eventhough the north-south routes were
electrified in the 1990s TEP70s continued to run for the express InterCity, ordinery services were replaced by EMUs.
The TEP70 is to be phased out and replaced by electric high speed trains by 2024.
