Foreword

I was working on a Sub-Saharan Africa overhaul mod when I found out that Paradox was planning new content for the region. Unfortunately, there are no map changes planned in this region which desperately needs changes! Due to the fact that EUIV uses the Miller cylindrical projection, Africa is portrayed as much smaller than it really is, in proportion to continents like Europe. The result is that Africa is largely underdeveloped and ahistorical in this regard. So, despite the whole mod being a work in progress still, I decided I would release what I have so far in the small chance that Paradox sees this and is inspired to add new provinces. but Paradox is not adding new provinces anymore.[forum.paradoxplaza.com] Nonetheless, this version should work, and I hope that you enjoy playing it!

Normally I would put credits at the end but this is truly the most important part of the description as these people have been incredible in their research and suggestions that I tried to implement to the best of my capacity:

Features
Map Changes

124 new provinces have been added, and many more changed to fix the ahistorical developmental disadvantage in 1444. Along with this, new areas, regions, and trade nodes have been defined.

New Countries

59 New Countries have been added in North Africa, West Africa, and Sudan. These are just a few out of many polities that existed at the time which aims to increase historicity in the game. Through decisions, the Mossi, Hausa, and Kabylia are now formables, and a united Tuareg nation is possible. A decision to restore the empire of Kanem Bornu is also in play.

New Governments

3 New Government types are now found throughout the tribes of the Sahara. With Conquest of Paradise, these make a country able to form Federations and own Tribal Land, and have a unique reform tree to be able to fully modernize.

Great Projects

Four new great projects have been added, for those with the Leviathan DLC.

National Ideas [WIP]

National ideas for many countries have been added but some localization still needs to be done. In addition, some weaker national ideas have been made them stronger.

New Events [WIP]

So far, six new events have been added. Two are about province culture changes, two about Islamic-Traditional religious interactions, and two about the Hausa city-states.

Slaves Estate [WIP]

The Atlantic Slave Trade was one of the biggest, if not the biggest, factors in changing the history of West Africa. Its representation in the vanilla game is simply a single event increasing the price of slaves as a trade good. This estate aims to bring forward a more humanizing view of slaves. The slaves estate will generally cause unrest in the country, and if it gets too strong, it will revolt with an unpleasant disaster to deal with. Actions that would increase slavery in a country, such as embracing the slave trade, or slave raiding, will increase the estate influence.

To Do
New Disasters

Disasters causing the Fulani Jihads to occur, Empire of Jolof to stagnate and splinter, and migration of Arab tribes into Sudan are planned.

New Mission Trees

Sub-Saharan Africa could always use more mission trees! The trees added in Origins was a good start, but influential nations like Fulo should get them as well.

Country Names and Ruler Titles

Many of the countries in West Africa had specific titles and thus the game should reflect this.
