Description:

This mod piles on the workload needed to process trees into workable lumber. The raw, wooden logs that trees drop will have limited, direct usefulness. Instead, it is cut into lumber at the carpenter’s trestle. This will yield green lumber, which can be used right away. But in order to get the most of your resources, it can be stacked to dry for a couple of days, yielding ordinary, ready-to-use lumber.

And no more can your pawns shove entire tree trunks into the kitchen stove. Instead, it must be cut into firewood first.

Difference between this and the other version

The other version is based on Syrchalis’s Universal Fermenter, whereas this is based on Vanilla Expanded Framework. Some key differences:

  • The drying rack must be completely full before it begins processing.
  • The process is simplified and only depends on temperature and [lack of] rain.
  • If you are switching over, you’ll need to rebuild your drying racks.

Note: The companion mod, Simple Chains: Leather will be getting the same treatment in the coming days. There is currently a technical limitation in the framework that has put its release in limbo. Once it’s sorted out, it’ll be released.

Details changes
  • The wood logs that trees drop can only be used for a small number of direct things now: the wood drying racks, the new carpentry trestle, campfires, and using it in the wood burning generator. The log’s ability to be wielded as a blunt weapon is also still there.
  • Wood is brought to the new Carpentry Trestle for processing into lumber. Here, pawns create Green Lumber. Green Lumber is still wet, it is prone to warping and losing its integrity over time (in game-term speak, this translates to it just having slightly fewer hit points and being slower for doors). Note: the carpentry trestle has no penalties for being an outdoor building.
  • Ideally, wood should dried over a couple of days. This is done at the new drying racks. Drying racks are affected by temperature and rain.
  • The dried lumber has the exact stats as vanilla wood, and under-the-hood it is also the same definition. So any building costs and recipes that call on wood will ask for lumber now.
  • The Carpentry Trestle is also used to cut firewood. Any fueled device that accepted wood (except the wood generator) must now take firewood instead.
  • Once your colony has electricity and machining, the machining bench can substitute the carpentry trestle.

As the lumber you end up with is ultimately no better than vanilla wood, it goes without saying that this mod is geared towards players looking for some extra challenge when it comes to resources in this game. Gotta work hard!

Compatibility notes
  • Expanded Woodworking is not compatible because of being too similar to one another in their goal.
  • Includes Combat Extended patch.
  • Attempts to automatically be compatible with any mod that adds new trees or refuelable buildings.
