Description:

This mod adds 10 units to the Eastern Roman Empire, all from neighbouring states that would have made up the Foederati of the Eastern Empire.

Ghassanid Cataphracts – The Ghassanids provided a large part of the Foederati for the ERE and with that they provided their horse masters in the form of the Cataphracts. Super heavy in class and with a formidable charge, they will literally trample the enemy into submission. They will not last longer in close quarter combat and are best used to charge, retreat and charge again.

Ghassanid Soborenoi – The best infantry the Ghassanid can field in the form of the Soborenoi. Named after the biblical figure who suffered patiently through many trials, called Subr or Subur in Arabic, but called Soborenoi in Greek. Super heavy in class this infantry unit has seen many battles in the Ghassanid "buffer zone" not just against the Sassnid’s but also the Bedouin tribes that plague the trade routes through the Ghassanid state. Raised on warfare these Elite troops are the pinical of infantry in the 4th Century.

Ghassanid Archers – Well armoured and with a large supply of ammo, this unit can rain death upon it’s enemies, but they are best used in a skirmisher role as they will not last long against enemy infantry.

Kurdish Archers – After being subjigated by the Sassanid’s the free Kurds fought for the sworn enemies of the Sassanids, the Eastern Romans. Skilled archers, but can hold their own in melee against light troops, similar to the mercenary units but featuring better armour provided by the Romans.

Shawai Guard – Skilled spearmen from the Berber tribes in the Aures mountains, west of the Nile, while some of the tribes fought against the Romans, others joined them in return for peace and land. Good spearmen that benefit from the Romans armour, they excel at anti cavalry deployment.

Kushite Shotelai – the Kushites were from modern day Egypt and Sudan and saw a decline in 1st and 2nd Century AD, those that kept their heritage alive fought bravely with the Shotelai sword, similar to the scimitar sword they were mainly used to curve around shields and inflict mortal wounds to all but the most heavily armoured infantry. Effective infantry but will not hold the line against elite troops.

Mounted Archers – Again from the Ghassanid state these troops excel at harrasing enemy lines. Quick and able to fire whilst moving, these cavalry with soften the enemy before the main battle line engages. Best kept out of direct combat.

Hellenic pikes – Hailing from Macedonian roots and still fighting with the Corinthian Helmet these pikes will stop Cavalry in their tracks. Best used in choke points, or part of a larger battle line these pikes keep the enemy at bay, whatever the cost.

Thracian Infantry – Part Thracian armour, part Roman armour, these heavy shock infantry have one use – run into the enemy and cause as much damage as possible, as quick as possible. With no shield, despite their improved Roman armour they will not last in an extended fight.

Faceless Archers – Hailing from Persian roots, these elite archers can a considerable amount of ammunition, so much so they can carry on firing into enemy lines twice as long as regular archers. Well armoured and trained in melee combat, these units are the best archers available to the Romans.

All units are recruited from towns/cities so form the first defence of the Eastern Empire as they would have been historically.

All units can now be recruited in the Belisarius (The Last Roman) campaign
