Škoda 43E (Kostitřas)
At the turn of the 1950s and 1960s, the then enforced concept of universal electric locomotives, intended for the operation of express trains, passenger and freight trains for the existing series 140 and 141 (according to today’s marking, then E 499.0 and E 499.1) completely fails . These locomotives proved more suitable for pulling express trains and passenger trains, as their conversion allowing a maximum speed of 120 km/h does not allow sufficient towing force for heavier freight trains. Therefore, the locomotive E 499.157 was equipped with a gear for a maximum speed of 90 km/h to increase the towing force. After experience with this machine, a new series marked as E 469.1, today’s 121, which is largely with the earlier 141, was developed and produced.
