Description:

This is a port and slight rebalance of Eramar’s Warden class for Long War of the Chosen; you should visit that page to find out more about all of the original abilities the Warden has. Check out the main class tree here[docs.google.com], which includes notes on the couple of new abilities this incarnation of the Warden has. As the Warden is now set up for LWOTC, they have a 4-tier XCOM row as well as the pistol row in addition to their three main ability rows. They no longer have access to the Bullpup, and instead can take an SMG, Assault Rifle or Shotgun as their primary weapon, and retain the Sword as their secondary. (If you want the Bullpup back for nostalgia, it’s easy enough to config back in.)

The Warden starts with the Ebb and Flow, Insight and Warden’s Advance abilities at Squaddie rank, and has 3 specializations in their main ability tree.

  • Ebb mostly focuses on keeping the Warden protected through avoiding attacks altogether or hampering the enemies’ ability to make the attempt in the first place. This specialization is good at close or mid range.
  • Tide lets you fill gaps in the Warden’s repertoire with improved action economy, mobility and supporting your squadmates. Mid range is king here.
  • Flow is what you need when you want to dominate up close; it features many abilities that either improve damage or let you take on a swarm of enemies.

Other changes:
  • There are two brand new (in this context, "brand" is Latin for "not really") abilities for the Warden. I set these up to make transparent an OPTC feature in this mod: the Teleport and Transposition abilities can be used with a Momentum Action point (which is what the Warden is granted when changing to Defensive Stance).
  • You won’t be able to make Wardens through the Guerilla Tactics School, and you’ll only see them about half as often as other classes from random promotions and mission rewards. This is due to their Psionic nature. I have a balance-related reason for this decision too; with Mod Jam’s Psionics Overhaul V3 update, Wardens have a 100% chance to be eligible for Psion training. If you think that’s pretentious, you can go into XComClassData.ini and change NumInForcedDeck to 1 and NumInDeck to 4 to make them work more like other classes, in terms of GTS Training and how common they are. If I see any comments from people reporting being unable to train Wardens in the GTS as a "bug", I will purposely lead them on a wild goose chase for the amusement of those of us that know how to read descriptions.

Mod Requirements

Conflicts
  • There should be no conflicts to speak of. My version sets up a new class, "LWS_Warden", and removes the original, so you shouldn’t have any weird ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ with the ability tree.

Credits
  • Eramar for making the original Warden Class, which of course this mod could not exist without.

If you don’t see your name in the credits and think you should be there, let me know and I’ll add you ASAP.
