Description:

This controller is the heart of a pure Diesel-Electric locomotive. It emulates the reversing contactor found in classic real life diesel electric locomotives.

It requires two levers to operate, the REVERSER and the THROTTLE.

The basic configuration is:

GENERATOR -> smallest battery -> motors.

Critically important: The game must be in finite electricity mode, and the circuit between the generator, the battery and the motors must be completely separate from all other electric circuits on the vehicle. You may either use an APU or a charge controller to charge your vehicle systems from the traction circuit. The battery is necessary because the game seems to generate electricity in discreet units and these units must be buffered, even though having a battery in the circuit is not appropriate.

This controller controls the motors.

The throttle should be attached to this controller and whatever start – idle – stop setup you are using.

You can try this out in my GP7 build, it drives very well.

MAJOR UPDATE: Form Factor has changed. In order to prevent jump starts, the new guidance for use of this controller is to insert a relay between the generator and the buffer battery. My apologies if this form factor change causes problems for anyone, it is necessary to improve the drivability of this controller. Without this change, the idle power generation was charging up the buffer battery causing problems. This new change prevents this. It is still possible to run secondary systems through a "battery charger" part directly off of the generators.
