Why is "Yet Another Beauty Mod" needed?

Do you like freckles? I know I do. If you want to paint away all the freckles, this isn’t the mod for you.

When using Beauty traits, this mod will add a bit of light makeup to the character’s original complexion.

All other mods, and vanilla CK3, replace the model’s original complexion, and paint their face over with a wall of makeup, when a beauty trait is applied.

Don’t believe me? Look at their code in gfxportraitstrait_portrait_modifiers. They all use "mode = replace", which replaces the original complexion with the wall of paint complexion, they also apply "template = complexion_beauty_1" which overwrites the character’s complexion template . This mod uses "mode = modify", and doesn’t change the character’s original complexion template. (Note: the "No Beauty Complexion" mod, is the one exception, this mod works with the brute force of applying no makeup at all with the Beauty traits.)

I made my own gfxmodelsportraitsdecalsfemale_head decal_female_head_lips_01_diffuse.dds (aka lipstick makeup) image by combining the default lipstick (although i change the hue by -18 to make the lipstick red instead of default orange) with the default eye and cheek makeup. This way, the lipstick decal also adds makeup, for a light touch of makeup for everyone.

But wait, there’s more:

I change the code of the Beauty traits, so they actually apply the old_beauty_1 template — which makes characters appear to age slower. The default CK3 code, and all of the other beauty mods, fail to do this correctly. (Hint: it is index "4", not the index "1" previously used by the default code, and all of the other beauty mods. Also, the proper age gene morph needs to be added to the Beauty traits.) Essentially, this is a GILF mod, putting the "L" back into the GIF.

I also make all characters (not just the ones with a Beauty trait) 10% younger looking.

I allow the women to start using makeup at age 16, the same year they get married. Old enough to have babies, old enough to wear makeup.

The default vanilla CK3 code will have the Beauty traits morph any outlying appearance features to be closer to the average, by setting min/max limits. My mod still does that, but the limits have been expanded, so the changes are less.

Just for fun, I added +/- 3% to the variability of all generated characters. This will create more "unique" characters in the world. One way to look more beautiful, is to make everyone else look uglier.

I slightly increased the bonuses granted by the Beauty traits, and the Fecund trait. Fecund now gives more years of fertility to compliment the default more years of lifespan. Fecund also gives women larger breasts, because that actually makes sense.* As always, these numbers can be edited to your liking in 2738393317commontraits

Men get a slight touch of makeup, too, because Paradox codes men to also use the women’s lipstick decal, but at least, it is applied less. You probably wouldn’t have noticed, if i hadn’t told you (it is subtle.)

Things may look different in the Ruler Designer (with this mod, and with other mods that change appearance). Wait for when you are in game to see the final look.

Now 100% compatible with Ethnicities & Portraits Expanded. Load YABM after EPE. In the two files we share, it now includes all relevant EPE code (as of 17 March 2022). EPE mod adds a lot of additional complexions, which YABM will allow you to actually see, when a character has a Beauty trait. So EPE is highly recommended.

If you feel the need for the Congenital Beauty mod, load Congenital Beauty after my mod (lower on list), otherwise Congenital Beauty won’t do anything. Congenital Beauty will overwrite some of the things YABM does, so those features will no longer work, but some features from YABM will still work.

* This may be conjecture and hyperbole, and may not be confirmed by actual science.
