Gender Laws Expanded
splits off the marriage restrictions from the succession laws and presents them as separate laws.
Players will be able to have a realm with female preference inheritance where only males are allowed to have multiple partners. Or maybe stay monogamous even though your faith is polygamous?

The mod further provides you with two interactions to change the gender and harem laws of your vassals if you are an independent ruler. Don’t want your spouse to have multiple husbands? Enforce monogamy on her!

Harem Laws:
Requirements:

• Approval from your powerful vassals.
• A fitting faith doctrine or culture tradition.

Options:

• Monogamy: One spouse.
• Harem for Males: Only males get to have multiple spouses or concubines.
• Harem for Everyone: Both genders get to have multiple spouses or concubines.
• Harem for Females: Only females get to have multiple spouses or concubines.

Change the gender laws of your direct vassals:
Optional requirement: High crown authority (can be turned on with a game rule)

• Ruler will dislike you when setting the gender law to the opposite gender.
• Heir will dislike you when your change disowns him. New heir will like you more instead.
• Costs prestige, costs increase when your change results in succession change.

Vassals of your direct vassal will automatically adapt to the gender laws of their liege.

Change the harem laws of your direct vassals:
Optional requirement: High crown authority (can be turned on with a game rule)

• Ruler will dislike you when setting the harem law to the opposite gender.
• Ruler will divorce secondary spouses or concubines depending on your selection.
• Spouses and concubines that get divorced will dislike you.
• Costs prestige and faith, costs increase when vassal needs to divorce partners.

Vassals of your direct vassal will automatically adapt to the harem laws of their liege.

Change the harem laws of your ruling spouses:
Same as above, works even when the realm is not part of your realm!
Requirement: You need to be the primary spouse of the target.

Currently I am thinking about implementing some changes to make the mod more balanced.
Tell me what you think about them or feel free to propose your own changes!

• Disowned heirs will become your rivals.
• Vassals can refuse your gender/harem law change.
• You can overrule your vassals by using hooks, otherwise it will count as tyranny.

• Overrides succession_gender_laws in 00_succession_laws.txt

As long as another mod does not edit or introduce new gender laws, this mod should be compatible.

• This mod is save-game compatible!

Every realm will switch to a fitting law config in the next months when loaded into a save-game.
