Description:

There’s a new version of this sub out, updated with new sonar and weapons!

"Take her fast, take her deep, take her where the fishes sleep
Damn the depth, damn the pressure, take her down just like the Thresher"

This is my interpretation of the Humpback from the game Barotrauma. Since Barotrauma is a 2D game, uses fantasy future tech, and has wildly different game mechanics, some concessions had to be made and imagination had to be used to create this. Nevertheless, I’m quite proud of it and the Humpback is quite capable of navigating the depths.

Since weapons aren’t in Stormworks yet, I elected to make some changes to make it better suited to exploration. These changes include infrared cameras with zoom functions on all the turrets, 20 flares(launched in pairs), and a magnetic winch in the bottom airlock.

Spawning is a bit tricky, however the multiplayer island base, the arctic freight terminal, and the north Sawyer freight terminal are all spawn points that both support the Humpback and allow it to sail off without beaching.

TO GET MOVING:
Navigate to the bridge, turn on the displays and the reactor, fill the ballasts, and activate depth control(and set the depth to 3-5 to be able to turn while leaving port). Then simply wait for the reactor and boiler to heat up(there’s a pressure gauge you can watch at the bridge, once it rises to 9.6 you’re ready to go).

Do note that the depth is controlled by the fins, so you need to be moving, even just a little, to maintain depth. If the sub comes to a halt, it is mostly neutrally buoyant but does slowly come back up to the surface.

Dimensions:
-48.75m Length
-12.25m Width
-13.50m Height(from fin to turret)

Features:
-Speed of 5.5 m/s(recommended depth of 10 meters for max speed)
-Nuclear reactor powering 10 steam turbines
-Suite of navigation equipment includes SONAR, dual LIDAR array, distance sensors above and below the sub to check the depth below the keel and for any obstacles overhead, and a map screen
-Breach, fire, and radiation leak alarms, bilge pumps, and emergency cabinets
-Easy to use bridge controls, all functions to get underway are able to be performed from the bridge
