Description:

My version of a Class 37 locomotive in Railfreight Coal Sector livery.

It is recommended (but not required) that you use "low" simulation detail to increase performance when using the Class 37. However the loco has been tested and works reliably at full sim detail.

Just going to state something – this is not supposed to be a 1:1 recreation of a specific locomotive! I inspired the build on 37049 "Imperial" as I happen to have a model of that sat next to me. The Class 37 in real life has had a ton of variants and refits, and I just picked what looked good in-game as my base for the design.

As far as internal systems and layout most of that was not based on the actual 37 but on what works best for gameplay. I guess the best way to describe this creation is "inspired" by the real life Class 37.

On to the loco’s features and systems:

– Three large diesel engines coupled with an 8500 litre fuel tank gives the loco an estimated range of anywhere up to ~1000km depending on load and speed. With a single Class 37 and 10 of my BR HAA coal hoppers fully loaded with coal I was able to get an estimated range of ~600km at 90mph.

– Safety Systems include Vigilance, AWS, DRA, and an engine fire suppression system.

– Multiple Working capability – chain any number of Class 37s together and control them all from one cab.

– Recovery Systems include brake and engine isolation switches, allowing a dead loco to be dragged.

– Portable tail lights for when the loco is stabled.

– External shore supply points for jump starting a dead loco.

– Extended startup sequence for immersion, can be disabled in the engine room for those who want a quick start.

– Track switching system, default frequency of 440 can be overridden via a keypad in the engine room.

– Top speed of ~160mph depending on load.

– Radio (Sheepdog’s VHF Compact Radio https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2057639205)

Full safety system guides are located in the driver’s manual, but if you wish to ignore these systems simply use the isolation switches in each cab (next to the engine room door)
