Boom’s Kongo Rework
The Kongo are arguably the most unique civilization in the game, since they are locked out of not only a wincon, but an entire game mechanic. However, in their current state, they struggle to gain faith, which is important to winning cultural victory, their intended wincon, and the idea of growing "tall" cities and the Mbanza contribute nothing to their gameplan.
Thus, in this mod, I aim to give the Kongo stronger and more consistent faith generation, as well as reward them for growing larger cities through specialists and a reworked Mbanza.
Religious Convert now provides faith for specialists in order to directly tie population and faith generation for Kongo. Nkisi now provides more yields and provides them to Religious Works of Art rather than Artifacts in order to synergize with their ability to earn Great People, as well as providing further incentive to grow large cities. Lastly, the Mbanza has been reworked into a superunique specialty district which provides a slot for any great work to help hold relics and to better reflect the historical Mbanza as large cities which were centers of trade and craftsmanship.
- Now provides +3 Faith for all specialists
- The Palace no longer provides extra slots
- No longer provides 50% extra merchant, artist, and musician points. Instead, it provides 25% extra GPP in cities with 10 population and 75% extra in cities with 20 population
- No longer provides yields to Artifacts, instead providing them to Religious Works of Art
- Now provides +2 faith to Great Works instead of +1
- The Mbanza is now a superunique specialty district, replacing nothing
- Unlocked at Guilds
- Now provides no base food or gold, but provides +5 Housing and +1 Amenity
- Provides +1 Food and +1 Production for each adjacent district
- Now has two specialist slots, which provide production, gold, and faith
- Provides one slot for any Great Work, which is automatically themed
- Provides one GPP to Writers, Artists, Musicians, and Merchants
This mod should be compatible with all mods that do not overhaul core game mechanics. However, my Mbanza is an entirely new district that reuses the visuals of the old Mbanza, so mods that change the old Mbanza will have no effect. If you run into an incompatibility please tell me and I will try to update this mod and fix it.
This is my largest and most thorough civ rework to date, and although I think it plays fairly well and coherently, I would greatly appreciate feedback of any kind in the Discussion section.
(Extra note: the 2 faith on tiles in my screenshots are from my pantheon rebalance mod, which restores Earth Goddess to 2 faith)
Special thanks as always to p0kiehl and Fuzzle for helping me code this.
Please feel free to leave feedback about compatibility, balance, bugs or anything else you would like to say to me :). Please enjoy my Kongo rework!
