Better Tank Driving
Summary
This mod aims to improve the realism of armored vehicle navigation in urban areas. Armored vehicles (AI and player) will now avoid driving through buildings and navigate more realistically. Tanks can tear through a building, but it doesn’t mean they did or should. Crews rarely risked the damage or immobilization that could be caused by collapsing rubble. Crushing fences, low walls, sheds, and other smaller structures is still considered fair game.
Historical examples:
Picture 1: At Stavelot in 1944, US troops launched a counter-attack. While the battle raged, an American infantryman fired his bazooka at a Tiger II tank. The driver gave full throttle (in reverse) and backed right into a building, which collapsed with the result that the huge tank got stuck in the rubble.
Picture 2: At Elsdorf in 1945, a Tiger I knocked out an American M26 in an ambush. After knocking out the M26, the Tiger I backed up to escape but became stuck on a rubble pile. The crew abandoned the tank.
Technical details
This mod only affects two files in the properties folder. It reclassifies buildings and some trees as impassable by armored vehicles. Therefore, this mod should be compatible with any other mod. If there are any technical difficulties, please let me know.
Credits
This mod is basically a recreation of the Civilpather mod which has since disappeared from the Workshop. The only reason I know this mod was possible was due to the Civilpather author’s achievements. Thanks to whoever that was.
