JNR EF12 class electric locomotive

The EF10 was an improved version of the EF10, a freight electric locomotive, with a new main electric motor and increased output.
Units 1-8, completed in 1941, had excellent performance and workmanship, and were praised as the best among the class of electric locomotives used by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism.
Units Nos. 9 to 17 completed after 1942 were of a quasi-war design, with some equipment and copper materials omitted, increased use of wood and other substitute materials, and the use of concrete to maintain the weight on the driving wheels.
In order to maintain the weight on the driving wheels, dead-weight concrete was used, and the outer body panels were made thinner and surface strain correction was omitted.
The later the completion date, the lower the quality and reliability became, but the EF13, whose structure and construction were further simplified as a wartime design, had a better reputation in terms of both operation and maintenance than the EF13.
However, it is said that the EF13 had a better reputation among both operators and maintainers than the EF13, whose structure and construction were further simplified as a wartime design.
