Lammas or Lughnasadh (pronounced "loo-nass-ah") celebrates the first harvest. Its recognized date is the cross-quarter day halfway between the summer solstice and autumn equinox. (In Catholic Europe, it corresponds to the Loaf Mass or Lammastide, when loaves made from the first grains are tithed and bakeries are blessed in preparation for the harvest getting in full swing; which came first is a matter of argument among religious scholars.) Traditionally, it’s celebrated by baking a special loaf of bread shaped like a person or animal to share with your household or community.
