Description:

This mod makes a number of tweaks to make EUIV more of a historical simulation.

1. Constant expansion is immensely (and ahistorically) rewarding, creating a snowball dynamic. This results in practically winning the game after 100-150 years and then slogging on just to achieve some goal. I have tweaked various modifiers to address this problem:

* Warfare is more costly, both with respect to money (more expensive land units) and manpower (increased attrition, increased penalty from war exhaustion).

* The number of states has been reduced in the early game.

* Local Autonomy (LA) is going to be a bigger problem.

* Estates have now a more prominent role, demanding more land and having a larger impact on LA.

* The aggressive expansion threshold to join a coalition is now 30 rather than 50. This means that the player needs to expand carefully and strategically and play the diplomatic game. Some implications of these changes is that Ming and the Ottomans are nerfed, that estates now require actual attention to manage and that diplomatic ideas are more useful.2. The mod also seeks to correct some historical weirdness.* Colonial growth in tropical and arid provinces is slowed down (to delay the colonization of Africa).* Institution spread is slowed down in tribal and nomadic governments. This means that Africa will remain relatively isolated and that institutions will spread slowly across Eurasia and Africa.3. The mod wants to simulate the benefits to technology and innovation from near constant warfare in Europe that many historians believe was the cause of “the Great Divergence”.* Power projection (PP) now gives up to +25% spy offence, +0.5 army tradition and 10% mil tech cost reduction at 100.* Army and naval tradition reduce the cost of mil and dip tech by 10% at 100.* PP from humiliation & war is boosted, but reduced from fulfilling age goals and being a great power. The aim of this changes is to nudge players to declare war just for the sake of humiliating enemies rather than just blobbing. Wars were (mostly) about honour and taking one’s rightful land back rather than massive territorial expansion. 4. Finally the mod has improved espionage* Full spy network gives -20% AE (from -10%) and +30% siege ability (scaling modifier).* Most late-game espionage action have been moved up to the early and mid game.* Sabotage recruitment and Sow discontent have been boosted considerably.
