Crunchy’s ‘2022’ Blood Overhaul
Before I start, if you’ve been curious about my absence – I’ve discussed it lower in the description.
Okay let’s dive right in! The screenshots are pretty self-explanatory, but this addon completely replaces all of the default Source (Half-Life 2) blood textures. This includes bloodstains, blood impacts/decals, blood trails, zombie/alien blood, AND flesh impact decals. It does not replace the blood impact particle, as most people prefer to use their own.
All of the textures are hand-made, and feature 2048×2048 resolutions. The bloodstains are 1024×1024. If you don’t know what that means, it means they look pretty. I’ve also ensured that all of the textures have minimaps, which prevent that "choppy grain" look that some textures have. It also significantly lowers the performance impact of the textures. Additionally, I’ve included proper alpha channels, which means there won’t be any green or white squares – no matter how many textures overlap.
It’s not shader or particle based. This is a classic, all-in-one addon that I simply sunk some time and effort into. I sincerely hope that everyone enjoys it!

Hey friends, it’s been a while. If you’re familiar with my addons, you may be wondering where the H-E-double-F*ck I’ve been. Truth is; after a lot of my addons were put out, I started seeing significantly more blood replacement addons being released. Y’know, bigger, fancier, hollywood-type stuff. For me, the category started to feel oversaturated. There were many particle-based addons, shader-based addons, etc. Stuff that’s way more complex than I have any interest in attempting to make and honestly, I just didn’t like them. Don’t get me wrong, they’re awesome addons, but Garry’s Mod uses a game engine that’s getting close to 20 years old. Hyper-realistic, ultra HD reflective 8k blood just looked weird to me in the game. So I stepped away, lurking in the shadows as usual. Eventually, the trend stopped and I saw a chance to go back to the simple roots that I’ve always enjoyed. Which eventually led me to put together this addon, dubbed the "2022 Blood Overhaul". I gave it that name because it just feels like a complete mod that I will probably use for the next year. Plus I couldn’t come up with anything better.
And yes, I do have some other addons in the works. Thanks for reading!
