Description:
Fidel Casserole’s Huge Earth

There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than the distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we’ve ever known. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves. The Earth is the only world known so far to harbor life. How will you conquer the pale blue dot?

Game Balance

I was unsatisfied with the existing maps of the Earth in the workshop so I decided to make my own. If you know my maps, you know I like them to be geographically accurate. For this map, I decided to use the Winkel Tripel Projection. This kind of projection preserves land and ocean sizes. This means the civ map has accurate continent sizes. Yes, that means Europe and Asia are smaller than you might see on other maps. However, I’ve counterbalanced this by completely loading up Europe & East Asia with tons resources. It should offer a unique challenge for players.

On the flip size, the Winkel Tripel Projection distorts the corners of the globe. You’ll notice that Australia & New Zealand look slightly distorted. In addition, eastern Asia and Alaska don’t come close in this map! This was intentional, as I believe preserving authentic geography and land size beats preserving the corners and edges of the map.
