SS Haynes Park
Two years after completing the SS Highclere, the STL began to consider introducing a new class of passenger liners into their main sea fleet. Rather than construct a sister for the established yet difficult Highclere, the line decided to purchase a new class of more modest sized liners from a failing rival company.
Introducing the SS Haynes Park. There is not much to say about this vessel or her sister as they never broke any record in the company’s history. She was not the largest, nor was she the fastest, despite her being refitted to travel at 16 knots later in life. Her luxury, though, rivaled the Highcler’s. She was very ornate, but much smaller and more economic. That does not mean, however, that she did not offer something special. She and her sister were the first liners in the STL Fleet to be fitted with a plunge bath facility on board.
The Haynes Park and her sister ran alongside the Highclere and participated in a service that was affectionately called the "Trendy Trio." Come October, 1911, both she and her sister, the Hartham Park, were recruited for war duties. While the Hartham was converted into a hospital ship, the Haynes Park, was converted to a troop carrier. She, alongside with her sister, managed to escape the war in one piece.
Coming out of the war, however, it was deemed that both vessels were too outdated for transoceanic crossings and were introduced to the STL’s small, but growing, cruise fleet. Both ships then pioneered the first dual cruise service for the STL and easily brought in a profit. For several years onward, both the Haynes Park and Hartham Park worked in this service until 1918 when both were scrapped side by side.
PLEASE NOTE:
– In order to turn on the lights, you first need to make your way down into the generator room, flip all 6 breakers, then head back up to the helm and hit the hot key 6.
I cannot add lifeboat to this ship, so please do not ask
