Серия строилась в Ленинграде (31 дом), Рыбинске (2 дома) и, возможно, других городах РСФСР. Форма здания в плане — длинный прямоугольник (т.н. «дом-пластина»). Внешние стены сложены из неоштукатуренного кирпича серого цвета, ширина кладки 2 кирпича. Лицевая кладка однорядная или трехрядная, без перевязки наружных швов. Перекрытия — круглопустотные настилы. В здании предусмотрены центральные водо-, электро-, тепло- и газоснабжение, водоотведение, установлены пожарные гидранты. Водостоки внутренние. Вентиляция приточно-вытяжная. Упоминается, что строительные конструкции домов серии не отличаются высокой надежностью.
Наиболее распространен проект здания на 156 квартир с разновысотными окнами. Здание с витринами и магазинами на первом этаже не имеет лоджий, но с торцов имеет балконы. Эскизный проект с 11 квартирами на этаж (132 квартиры в доме) не был реализован. Другие проекты имеют по 13 квартир на этаже — по две 3-комнатные на торцах, с лоджией и проходной комнатой, четыре 2-комнатные с лицевого фасада и семь 1-комнатных с заднего фасада. В центре этажа расположен холл с лифтами и мусоропроводами. Оттуда в обе стороны расходятся коридоры, соединяющие все квартиры и лестничные блоки расположенные ближе к торцам. Таким образом, здание является односекционным, хотя и имеет три отдельных входа. В наши дни боковые двери, что ведут на лестницы, часто намеренно запираются, и вход-выход осуществляются лишь через помещение лифтового блока первого этажа, контролируемое консьержем.

Ventilation is forced-air and exhaust. It is mentioned that the building structures of this series are not highly reliable.

Thus, the building is one-section, although it has three separate entrances. These days, the side doors that lead to the stairs are often deliberately locked, and entry and exit is carried out only through the ground floor elevator block, controlled by the concierge.
