Lore

The economic crisis of the 2020s affected all of the world, but South America, due to its reliance on exporting basic, unrefined materials, suffered less than other continents that were better integrated into the global economy. But even that led to violence and instability all across the continent.
Out of a necessity to keep trade flowing with partnered nations and seeking to build positive relations with potential trade partners, many of which are suffering internal or externally imposed strife, Brazil reluctantly agrees to deploy more of their troops on UN mandates, resulting in a significant increase in the number of soldiers deployed abroad as Peacekeepers and observers.
Those deployments, while initially unpopular, led to an increase of goodwill towards Brazil in the international community, and Brazilian peacekeepers were deployed all across the world, including Colombia, Equator, French Guiana, Baracas, Nigeria, Italy, and most recently, The Republic Altis and Stratis and the Horizon Islands. Due to Brazil’s history of neutrality and strong diplomacy, Brazilian deployments tended to be particularly effective, by UN standards.
By the late 2030s, political turmoil led to an unprecedented reduction of Brazilian UN deployments, as the tensions of the new cold war inch ever closer to home…
