Description:

The Musician is a character class that is as versatile as music itself. If you use their skills correctly, you can make a melody of death and destruction … but if you use them wrong you will end up with a discordant mess. This mod features 20+ new skills, most of which are actually four skills in one, as well as a new weapon to complement the class.

Beat ’em Up

The Musician is an elemental battlemage whose specialisation is influenced by the order in which their skills are used. Most Musician skills interact with the Beat, a status that increments whenever you use a Beat skill. The Beat determines what effect these skills have, allowing you to buff your damage and then blast your enemies in one order, heal and protect allies in another order, or something in between! However, if you cast a skill on a Beat you didn’t mean to, you could end up healing your enemies and attacking your allies, so be careful.

Here are some examples of how you can use your skills in different orders to create different playstyles:

  • Ranged Damage Dealer: Cast Singin’ in the Rain on Beat 1 to first lower enemies’ elemental resistances, cast Adoration of the Crowd on Beat 2 to pull the enemies towards you and strip their Magic Armour, cast Up to Eleven on Beat 3 to gain a stacking damage buff and then obliterate the enemies with Conductor’s Beat 4 effect.
  • Tank: Cast Change Tempo on Beat 1 to boost your resistances, cast Up to Eleven on Beat 2 to increase your health and armour, cast Adoration of the Crowd on Beat 3 to perform a mass taunt, and then cast Leggiero on Beat 4 to reflect damage and gain death resistance.
  • Support: Cast Symphony on Beat 1 to boost your allies’ damage, cast Singin’ in the Rain on Beat 2 to heal your allies in a large area, cast Boombox on Beat 3 to reduce enemy damage and movement speed, and then cast Up to Eleven on Beat 4 to resurrect all nearby allies after advancing the Beat further.

Skills, Vendors and Weapons

A full list of the Musician’s skills can be found here[docs.google.com]. The Musician skills require a mixture of Aerothurge, Geomancer, Hydrosophist and Pyrokinetic to learn, meaning you can easily supplement your build with other skills from those specialisations without much difficulty. To help offset the rather hefty attribute point requirements of these skills, the Musician class preset comes with a couple of extra attribute points, free of charge. Be sure to select it so that you can learn the level 1 skills right away.

There is also a new weapon type, the lute, that comes with this mod. Each lute has at least 1 point in aero/geo/hydro/pyro, and functions similarly to the staff. They can be used to smack someone over the head, or to perform a long-ranged attack, making them perfect for all Musician playstyles.

These skills and weapons are sold by Tarstan Bungs, a bard of no renown (no relation to the more well-known Barstan Tungs). You can find Tarstan in the following locations:

  • Fort Joy: Next to the shrine at the beach you initially wash up on.
  • Reaper’s Coast: On the top deck of the Lady Vengeance.
  • Nameless Isle: In the treetops of the Temple of Tir-Cendelius (with the other vendors).
  • Arx: In the town square, standing at the main crossroads.

Compatibility

There is quite a bit of code running in the background to ensure the Musician skills work the way they should. As such, other modded content may interact strangely with the Musician. Vanilla-like skills should interact properly (or at least not crash the game), but mods that significantly change the game may not. I have done playtesting with and without mods and encountered no issues, but I can’t be sure that a mod will never cause a crash or have a strange interaction. Please submit a bug report below if you encounter these issues.
