Description:

tl;dr vanilla expanded props have no research or build costs*. that’s the patch.

I really like Vanilla Furniture Expanded – Props and Decor! Decorations are nice. I also like the added clutter when "visiting" faction bases generated by Vanilla Base Generation Expanded.

I don’t like the added bloat of research projects and build costs. Why? They’re non-functional decorations. They don’t do anything. Okay, while it’s true that some stuffable props (like braziers) add not insubstantial beauty bonuses, the tables function as tables, and the vehicle props create large explosions when damaged, you could enable God Mode and build them for free, anyways. You could do that without this patch.

So I took a knife to the xmls and excised (patched) the things I don’t like. No longer will props clog up Semi-Random Research with their obtrusive and time wasting research projects. No longer will props be an impediment stopping you from advancing in tech levels, because one does not simply dance into the medieval era without knowing how to make a fake wooden mushroom.

They also cost nothing to make* and only 1 work to build, because they’re non-functional decorations and I don’t think cosmetic items should be resource or time sinks.

*The Stuffable prop brick piles, empty braziers, banners, and tables still require 1 Stuff. As far as I can tell they need at least 1 Stuff in the construction cost list or they won’t be… Stuff. Banners would all come out as cloth, braziers and tables would come out as steel, and I didn’t bother testing the brick piles. If there’s a way around this, I’m not interested in spending more time figuring it out.

If you use a mod like Functional Vanilla Expanded Props that adds functionality to these props maybe don’t use this? Or do. That’s on you. It’s your game and I’m not your mom. See God Mode comment above. I don’t use that mod or any other mods that directly interact with VFE Props, so compatibility testing has not and will not be performed. That is, again, on you.

I don’t know what I meant with the Preview image. I think I did a crime on VE’s mod? Prop research and build costs were the crime? I don’t know. I was a bit unwell last night when i slapped it together, and my brain ain’t in tip top shape today either.

Thanks to SirMashedPotato and their tutorial discord for help figuring out some xml things!
