Alstom New Pendolino
The New Pendolino refers to multiple classes of high-speed trains all based on the same design and manufactured by Alstom. The name ‘Pendolino’ comes from the Italian word for pendulum, a reference to the train’s tilting capabilities which allows it to round corners at faster speeds. Its name is also a reference to the original Pendolino train (ETR 401) manufactured by Fiat Ferroviaria in the 80s and 90s. Since then, the term ‘Pendolino’ has been used to describe many different trainsets throughout Europe that utilize tilting technology. Alstom created the New Pendolino design in 2006 to fulfill a joint order for Trenitalia and Cisalpino (now SBB).
Alstom’s New Pendolino design has since been marketed to other companies and is currently operating as:
RABe 503 (SBB)
ETR 610 (Trenitalia)
Avant S-114 (Renfe)
ED250 (PKP)
CRH5A (CRH)
While all of these rail classes differ slightly to meet varying needs and standards, the base design for all of them is the same. This mod was specifically designed off of the SBB’s RABe 503, but is a suitable stand-in for any of the other classes
