Damen Canal Cruise 1404 E3
The Canal Cruise 1404 E3 is manufactured by the Dutch shipbuilder Damen, who designed it with the tight canals of Amsterdam in mind. Its narrow hull and low roof are perfect for areas with small waterways and low bridges that normal ferries would not clear. The glass enclosure also makes this ferry good for sightseeing tours and events. The boat operates on Damen’s E3 electric batteries which powers a small 38 kW engine. This compact engine limits the maximum speed to 12 km/h (7mph) (Which is probably as fast you’re allowed to go in Amsterdam’s waterways).
For people who want to use this ferry on slightly more robust routes, I included a fictional, slightly faster 25 km/h (15 mph) version called the Damen Canal Cruise 1404 Express. With a boat of this size, any faster would cause it to skip across the water which would make for a very uncomfortable ride.
