Description:

The GIM-2 CIWS project stems back to early tests on how to effectively counter oncoming long-range subsonic cruise missiles such as the ARCM-3B as well as ARCLM-2B, this begun a highly advanced hard kill system built to easily bringdown oncoming missiles as a last resort effort, this system became known as the GIM missile system, and eventually lead to the GIM-2A "Beaver" CIWS alongside the TEMPESTA-C automated launch platform.

The system is still under heavy work-in-progress so expect updates from time to time!

The GIM-2A/B "Beaver"/TEMPEST-C CIWS is a short-range, hard-kill, APN Guidance assisted anti-missile system consisting of 2 GIM-2As mounted for 180 degree missile defence from oncoming threats in all weather conditions, the system has a scanning range of 3.5km and a hard-kill range of below 1.5km. It is capable of providing DIRECT DEFENCE of a vessel (head on attacks towards the CIWS.) as well as LOCAL AREA DEFENCE or as I like to call offset shots. (Firing at missiles not aimed towards the CIWS.)

Features:
  • Automated Anti-Missile System supplemented with APN.
  • 2x GIM-2A high-agility APN missiles.
  • 180 degree FOV.
  • Proximity fusing.
  • Manual firing for aircraft & ships.
  • Easily mountable onto vessels, bow & stern.

How to use effectively: (Instructions)

To effectively use the GIM-2A/B Platform, the following information is crucial into gaining an advantage in high-capability missile defence.

For usage of the system, first hit MASTER ARM, the system shall arm and be alert to any oncoming threats. To deal with threats, the best tactic is to give the launcher as much freedom of movement as possible and face it head on towards a threat if you have the chance to, this will provide the launcher with enough time to fire its second missile and gives you an opportunity to escape.

The system is essentially designed as a "last resort" when all else fails, the first line of defence is to not be hit nor found, the second line is to jam the missile (soft-kill), and the third line of defence is to hard-kill, which is where the GIM-2A CIWS comes in.

  • GIM-2A/B Launchers are designed to be placed on the bow and stern of a vessel or as its own static defence. It is CRUCIAL you place them in areas where there are no players in the way as the launcher can lock onto them rather than an incoming missile.
  • The missile defence system is effective up to 160m (240m Block II) target height & 1.5km target distance. It is capable of hitting subsonic munitions as well as the following: The CM-2, CMB-1, ARCLM-2B, ARCM-3B, AGM-16 and AGM-30.
  • This system and the missiles are NOT designed to destroy adversary aircraft nor boats, a hit on a manoeuvring aircraft is very possible but not guaranteed. It can hit oncoming aircraft BELOW 1km. The Block II variant CAN hit aircraft and boats much more effectively however, so be sure to try that one out!

Block II Update:

The Block II Update allows the GIM-2B a range extension of 500m as well as able to hit targets at altitudes above 200m. This includes the implementation of a new variable navigation constant to allow for more smoother & accurate hits on a target, response time is slightly more delayed but is negated by improved accuracy as well as providing much more effectIVE direct defence & local area defence.

Improvements:

  • Variable Navigation Constant to allow for more accurate hits on missiles as well as aircraft and vessels.
  • Improved range increase of 600m.
  • Weight reductions.
  • Accuracy improvements.

Block III Update:

The Block III Update allows the GIM-2D the ability to hit targets at altitudes up to 400m, as well as the addition of a new EPN guidance system alongside APN granting the GIM-2D a much required manoeuvrability upgrade, as well as this, the launcher has had several upgrades to improve target acquisition and prevent the locking onto inanimate objects.

Improvements:

  • EPN Guidance system, efficiency and manoeuvrability upgrade.
  • Better target acquisition.
  • Max target height/altitude increased to 400m.
  • General accuracy improvements.

Special thanks to:

Keptin for providing an amazing amount of information on APN Guidance as well as providing a lot of help into the development of the GIM series as well as the thumbnail. It is much recommended you check his stuff out!
