DESCRIPTION

This is a basic step-by-step guide on how to make an average cruise missile. This will not show you how to make the best cruise missiles, nor advanced ones (that is up to you to make), however hopefully this guide will allow you to see the processes of how a cruise missile works, and will allow you to take them apart and look at how each system works as well. After reading this small guide, you should hopefully be able to make a basic cruise missile in which you can begin to develop off of and create your own more advanced ones.

THE DIFFERENT STEPS

Step 1:
– Your cruise missiles engine layout. Most basic cruise missiles will either use SRBs, or in this case (for longer range) a jet engine. This particular setup is a ramjet setup, which means the jet engine doesn’t use a compressor. For this to work you need initial speed to spool up the engine, which is where the SRB boosters come in.
Step 2:
– Your cruise missiles sensor layout. It does not matter where the sensors go, however these are your main sensors that you will need for it to work. The tilt sensor can be placed anywhere however it is suggested you keep it pointing left rather than right to account for roll. Make sure your radar is also set to static, and has a wide FOV.
Step 3:
– Your cruise missiles fin & control layout. You want to make sure you have an equal amount of fins at the front & back, or more fins at the back. It does not matter what type of fins, as long as they both have an equal amount of drag on both the front and back.
Step 4:
– Your cruise missiles microcontroller & warheads. This is the brains and the (boom) of the cruise missile, the microcontroller provides you a basic cruise missile guidance example, which you should take apart and see what each section does.
Step 5:
– Your cruise missiles body. This does not entirely matter and isn’t a necessity, however if you’re going for aesthetics, covering up the missile is a good idea to pursue!
Step 6:
– Eventually, your cruise missile will begin to look like this, a finalised product of the example which will fully function. The Step 6 example is fully functional, so feel free to use it.
Step 7:
– Your launcher for the cruise missile. This requires you send a keypad waypoint to the missile, which the microcontroller provides an example of how you do it. Please note this is a basic example of a launcher, and multiple different systems and functions can also be added.
