Realistic Resource Distribution
I made this mod for two specific reasons:
1. Resource distribution in vanilla Victoria 3 tends to be pretty "arcade" compared to real life. They are spread fairly evenly and some countries that should lack vital resources don’t (for gameplay reasons). This mod changes that.
2. Arable land in vanilla Victoria 3 is based on starting population. Chinese states that don’t actually have a lot of arable land in real life (but a lot of population) have 10 or 20 times the arable land of states that, in real life, actually have 10 times the arable land of those Chinese states. This discrepancy is pretty ridiculous and since states in the new world are most affected, it also reduces their potential for growth and immigration, as their ‘Sparsely Populated’ modifier isn’t as big as it should be.
So, this is what this mod changes:
-Arable land and all resources reworked for all states on the map (ALL OF THEM! The screenshots are just an example)
-Starting buildings and trade routes completely reworked
-Added a few state traits
-China and Japan get special subsistence farms that employ twice the pops, to represent their historical intensive agriculture that allowed them to sustain a disporportionately high population with their relatively sparse arable land
Known issues:
-I haven’t done trade routes for every single country, so some starts might be a bit strange, but you can just set up your own trade routes anyway (and the AI will do that eventually)
-Not extensively tested so there might be bugs I haven’t found yet
-Actual impact of resource scarcity might be questionable because you don’t really need THAT many agricultural/resource buildings, at least for most of the game, so you could get away with only having a few. Not sure what it’s like in the late game yet. I decided on these values months ago, when I didn’t know how many buildings you would typically build.
