Description:

Important

  • Set the texture depth to lowest in the graphics settings.
  • Keep in mind that during winter, the texture changes to the default snow texture (for now).
  • This map requires the texture listed in the dependencies.

Description

Located in the eastern part of Tuva, Russia, this valley is located at least 100 kilometers from the nearest village, and it’s surrounded by mountains in each direction. Through the valley runs the meandering Bilin river, which eventually flows into the Yenisei. Although these mountains are rich in precious metals, exporting these will be difficult due to the remoteness and the harsh continental climate.

How to do it yourself (would love to see more maps like this 😉 )
  • Find a nice location on Google maps with a high resolution texture.
  • I modified this code[github.com] to automatically make lots of close-up screenshots from Google maps in satellite mode. Let me know if you want to use the code.
  • Stitch the screenshots using Microsoft ICE (which is free but officially discontinued. You can still download it here[www.dpreview.com]).
  • Render the heightmap using this website[tangrams.github.io]. Convert the resulting image to 8-bit png and smooth it a little bit.
  • Crop and line up the texture image with the heightmap.
  • In the save files from the in-game terrain editor (under save_terraineditor), modify the material files. Replace texture 5 with the path to your texture, and 6 with an empty picture. In script.ini, set $TILESIZE1 to 1.000000, and each (?) of the $FARTILE_MUL to 1.000000.
