Knuckles and Metal Knuckles!
Let’s show the basement the real power of teamwork, cos Knuckles the Echidna is here to round out the trio of Sonic heroes!
Thanks for your patience peeps; after some extensive working, reworking and testing, Metal Knuckles is now available to play! Metal Knuckles is my most experimental character to date in terms of play style, so I really wanted to ensure he was in a good place before I released him. Hopefully he will have been worth the wait!
– KNUCKLES THE ECHIDNA –
As my first character to be developed after the debut of my V2 line, Knuckles is designed from the get-go to fit in stat-wise as someone with good strengths without being OP or dull. Let’s break down how he works!
Knuckles is renowned for his strength and treasure hunting, so that’s how his kit is focused. Knockout Drops grant you a chance to deliver a strong punch that can send foes flowing, and true to his theme song, his tears are able to destory rocks and other entities, both to open up new pathways and access secrets!
These abilities are complimeted by the Compass, allowing you to see the map immediately upon starting each floor, and the Shiny Rock trinket, which will cause tainted rocks and other secret-concealing objects to glow. The great emerald’s power allows you to feel…

PROLOGUE
Having only one major appearance to his name, Metal Knuckles was a bit of blank slate creatively. I decided to create a playstyle that would potentially answer the question of why we never saw Metal Knuckles make a comeback.
This Metal Knuckles, effective as he may have been, posed a huge danger to everyone, and not just to Sonic and crew. Dr. Robotnik built him with a radioactive core, and when it malfunctioned, Metal Knuckles had to be buried to mitigate the risks. Unfortunately, Robotnik didn’t count on him reactivating and finding the basement…
DETAILS
Metal Knuckles is very powerful but comes with some major drawbacks that will force you to think carefully about how you release all that power.
Metal Knuckles is highly radioactive and poses a threat to everything within the basement, including himself. This is represented in-game with the combination of Ipecac, mysterious liquid, Dead Tooth, and Eye Sore.
The radiation leaking out of him is highly effective at poisoning and damaging enemies, but it is also extremely unpredictable; an errant drop may easily strike you as you fight, and this poses a heightened threat to you due Metal Knuckles’ inability to carry more than 3 hearts, his core having decomposed too much to sustain any further. This is not a character that can get away with relying on strength alone.
Metal Knuckles is also equipped with Thunder Thighs and the Callus trinket, allowing him to burrow through rock and other objects. Chalk it up to those massive claws of his.
While I’m pretty happy with where he is now stat-wise, I do expect there to be issues I may have overlooked, so please feel free to share your thoughts in the comments or discussions 🙂
– NOTES –
Both characters make use of the Character Costume Protector.
Fans of the Sonic OVA are in for a treat when acquiring flight with Knuckles! For Metal Knuckles, his flight palette harkens back to a doppelganger from Sonic Advance.
Please note that these characters were only tested in the Repentance Edition of the game. I cannot vouch for what will happen if you try to use them without it.
A big thanks to everyone who subscribes and leaves comments on my work; your continued support is what motivates me to make more characters and learn how to make each release better and better!
