One of the many guns of John Pedersen, the Remington 51 was designed as a pocket pistol to compete in the huge concealed handguns market of the time. The Remington 51 was slightly bigger and more expensive than the competition, but it was more accurate, easier to hold and safer. Although it saw some moderate success in the private market, the military never adopted it (even though it was deemed more reliable than the M1911), and as such it’s use through WW1 and WW2 was mainly as personal handguns of NCOs and officers.
