The Janus is a relatively small frigate for the early game. It is built with upgradeability in mind and comes with markings for additional turrets, cpu upgrades and thrusters. The antennas can be removed to get space for fixed weapons. Shield generator has enough space to replace it with a bigger one. Upgrading generator capacity may require the removal of some fluff. There are LCDs in the ship that provide some directions on where to put upgrades to keep or even improve the look.
Only light armor, so not a good ship for mid- or lategame fights.

See screenshot. It’s expensive, so you may want a SV with a jump drive to get the necessary resources first if you take this as your Starter CV.

Update 21.10.2021
Rework to help with upgradeability and flexibility:
– Added lots of LCDs & Markings to explain update possibilities. Most of these are hidden in the maintenance areas, so they shouldn’t be too annoying. Recommend still to throw them out once you read them.
– Reworked the Main Engine Housings to allow upgrading to Advanced Thrusters
– Bigger Med Bay, now with full medtools
– Marked areas for CPU upgrades
– Rearranged thrusters to give more turn speed, instead of having a full lift centered setup. Still a slow boat, but should be a little less annoying now.
– Removed the Hydroponic pods from the blueprint, just add them yourself once you have them. Or don’t, the LCD for the area lists some alternative ideas for a setup once you got the CPU for it.
– Replaced some of the fluff on the upper hull that was sometimes blocking the turrets
