IJN Furutaka 1942
Description:
Furutaka and Kako were the first two Japanese heavy cruisers built under the Washington Naval Treaty.
Commissioned in 1926, Furutaka underwent an extensive rework in 1937 that replaced the original six single turret layout with three conventional twin turrets along with other improvements. Assigned to Cruiser Division 6 at the end of 1941, Furutaka participated in the Battle of the Coral Sea, the Battle of Savo Island and the Battle of Cape Esperance where she was sunk (12 October 02:28) by torpedoes and artillery fire from the USN cruiser formation.
