Co-op works just fine, and although it disables head to head because you have an alliance.
(Description from the main mod REPLACE Tlaxtlan with (Itza))
//What does this mean? This gets rid of the inactive faction of the Defenders of the Great Plan, thoroughly replacing it by Tlaxtlan(Itza) which does recruit units and does things on its own. I disliked having a faction that was basically just there to sit on a city and wait with a subpar garrison. It created scenarios like stumbling into Lustria and finding most of the settlements there were Defenders, and once you killed Nakai, the rest was just an easy chore to conquer. Now, even if Nakai dies, the faction left behind is the Tlaxtlan(Itza) we all know. For the player playing Nakai it should mean a bit less babysitting since this faction can at least take some care of itself.
Tlaxtlan(Itza) works like a normal faction so it will still have to build buildings before it does armies and so on. The temples required for Nakai’s mechanics will always take one slot in their cities so sometimes it might take the AI a bit longer to get all the buildings needed.
Since the settlements are no longer the main building it used to build, now temples provide the income they did before. Tlaxtlan(Itza) will also build extra economy buildings, so combining both things, the player should have slightly more economic power than with vanilla Nakai. This also has the side effect that Tlaxtlan(Itza) gets an income boost so they’ll spawn more armies overall. In order to make Tlaxtlan(Itza) not suffer in rough climates and thus ruining the player’s experience of Mortal Empires, it was given all the climate resiliances Defenders of the Great Plan had.\
