Better Starting Items
A simple mod part of a bigger project I am working on, designed to tweek a few characters to have better starting items (as the name implies).
??? now holds the Petrified Poop!
As of Repentance ??? is officially worse than The Lost and The Keeper, so I figured I that its about time he got an upgrade. Petrified Poop in combination with The Poop allows for a 50% chance to produce an item every room, essentially granting a 2 charge Book of Sin. This vastly improves his survivability, being able to get soul/sin hearts and coins for free.
Lazarus is now holy!
Specifically, Lazarus Resurrected is given Act of Contrition. Playing as Lazarus is never usually more fun than other characters, as the resurrection gimmick can be very detrimental. To combat this, Act of Contrition provides Lazarus with an Eternal Heart, allowing for an immediate health up if killed after a boss fight. Furthermore, this item allows for a more likely access to Angel Rooms even after making a devil deal, significantly boosting the items which Lazarus can get!
Eden now holds Buddy in a Box!
Although Eden can easily be one of the most broken characters in the game, there is also the chance that he starts off with items that prove disadvantageous without any other items. The purpose of Buddy in a Box is to make runs feel less inconsistent, with the added bonus of still feeling randomized due to how the familiar spawned is also randomized – pretty neat huh?
Some of you may find these additions unecessary, as ??? and Eden are supposed to be "challenge" characters; regardless of how you feel, this mod is intended to make these characters feel more fun to play as, rather than reducing the difficulty (seriously, ??? is just infinitely worse Isaac!). This is also my first mod for the game, so if you have any criticism (good or bad) let me know – it’s all appreciated!
This is likely the last time I will be adding anything major to this mod, as I believe that the other characters in the game feel fair to play as or are beyond fixing with just an item. I have many different mods being planned as well, including a few small ones such as this in addition to a much more ambitious project.
