Description:
TDC MOD (T. Vh. Re. S3)

BETA

This mod adds the original torpedo range calculator T. Vh. Re. S3 added to the game. The device has been painstakingly recreated from original photos of submarines and museums. Systems and calculation methods correspond to the original.

The torpedo reserve calculator (TVhR) was the heart of the torpedo fire control system in German submarines. This was located in the conning tower on the starboard side between the submarine controls and the attack periscope. It was an electromechanical device designed to solve the torpedo triangle, calculate the angle of fire and the angle of dispersion of torpedo salvos.

Changed game mechanics
Torpedo turning radius and firing angle
The modulation simulates the torpedo turning radius and limits the maximum angle of fire.
(An angle of +/-135 degrees is currently used for all types of torpedoes).

CHECK THE TORPEDO FIRE ANGLE BEFORE FIRE!

NOTE: If you try to launch a torpedo with a larger firing angle than possible, the torpedo will not be able to reach the specified angle and will stop rotating at the maximum firing angle.

Fan shot

The TVhR mod changes the behavior of the fan shot.
The following picture shows the behavior of torpedoes with different fan shots with an angle of 20°.

PLEASE NOTE: TORPEDOES ARE ALWAYS FIRED FROM RIGHT TO LEFT!

NOTE: The scatter angle scale in the TVhR only shows the maximum allowable spread angle and does not automatically update the scatter angle slider in the in-game Tropedo console!

Don’t forget to set the desired spread angle manually or with the spread angle update button in the INGAME TORPEDO console.

Basics of the interface

Here are the basics of the TVhR’s interaction and its interface.

WARNING: IF YOU FIRST TIME INSTALLED THIS MOD AND LEFT-CLICK (LMC) DOESN’T SHOW TVhR, TRY RIGHT-CLICKING (RMC) THIS BUTTON. THIS SHOULD RESTORE THE TVhR TO THE DEFAULT POSITION AND SIZE.

Use this button in Periscope, UZO or Map view to show and hide the TVhR.

You can move the TVhR surface by dragging it with LMC and resize it by dragging the bottom left or bottom right edge.

If you click on the resizing zone with RMC, the TVhR will resize to the default size. Clicking the zone again with RMC restores the previous used size.

Positions and sizes are automatically saved for each station:

Attack/observation periscope
UZO
map view

If you want to revert to the default size and position, just click the TVhR Show/Hide with RMC button.

In the map view, calling up the torpedo console is now also available without having to select the target directly. This allows you to launch a torpedo attack without selecting the target, using only the torpedo firing angle from the TVhR.

The interface looks like this:

The torpedo console has been changed.
The mod adds two new elements:

Activate TVhR as torpedo target computer on/off
Update Scatter Angle button

TVhR switch on / off:
– When the TVhR is turned on [green light], all torpedoes will be targeted and fired according to the current TVhR firing angle, regardless of other in-game stats/calculations. This will ignore your manual calculations (using the standard in-game targeting tools) and submarine crew calculations. The torpedo will ONLY be fired using the values provided by the TVhR.
Of course, you can enter the determined values of your officers in the TVhR at any time.

– When the TVhR is off [red light], all torpedoes will be aimed and fired according to the usual in-game procedures. In this case, the calculations made by you (with standard in-game aiming devices) or your submarine crew will apply.

Firing Angle Update Button:
– Press this button to update the calculated current firing angle for the torpedo salvos from the TVhR in the torpedo console.

NOTE: Currently the game does not allow a shooting angle greater than 10 degrees.

It is recommended to play the game in the MIXED (km, knots) unit of measurement.
