Zavyalov Island
Zavyalov Island is an uninhabited island in the north of the Sea of Okhotsk, in the far east of Russia. The only outside connections are by the sea. To north lies the Soviet port Magadan. The closest connection to the western markets is the City of Sapporo in Japan. The island is rich is coal deposits and has some additonal oil fields and a concentration of uranium ore. Iron and bauxite are completely lacking however, and will need to be imported.
You have been commissioned by the CC of the CPSU to start construction of a town and infrastructure on the island for the sake of the state’s recource extraction programme. In particular, the uranium found in the north-eastern part of the island is deemed to be of vital importance to the Soviet nuclear programme.
An effort was made to replicate the dimentions of the island as closely as possible in the game. Obviously the climate and vegetation do not correspond to the real-life Zavyalov island are avalable in the current version of the game, but I figured regular pine trees are a close enough approximation of the Siberian dwarf pine that is endemic on the island.
The ore deposits are also mostly fictional. Although the region in general have some coal deposits, as well as some natural gas extraction, the location of their deposits on the map does not reflect survey data from the real life island. Some concentrations of Uranium isotopes have been found on the real island, but not enough to suggest a worthwile uranium ore deposit.
