Chrissant’s AoJ 555 Battle 1.0 Battle Overhaul

Before you ask, yes, this mod will also work with Age of Belisarius and other subsequent expansions to the foundational overhaul of Age of Justinian 555AD.
The new 1.0 brought a fresh take on combat which, in my estimation, tried to emphasize the impact of strategic maneuvers made in the heat of battle. Simply put, morale penalties made for the big picture of the battle are far more decisive than stat differences of units engaged in melee. You need only the tiniest edge necessary to outmaneuver the enemy’s army to win the battle, rather than focus on cheesy minmax to make OP units.
This mod simply rolls that change back in some ways, allowing for a battle experience a bit less determined by flanking maneuvers or cavalry charges alone whilst still staying true to the overall feel of the new update. I will continuously update this mod according to feedback and my own testing much like I did for my other battle overhauls.
- The trajectories of archers have been reduced to better resemble a 45 degree angle, and the speed of their projectiles have been increased.
- Matched combat was significantly reduced to reduce the destabilizing effect it has for units in formation and especially cavalry melee engagements.
- Morale penalties from various situations and effects that occur in battle have all been significantly reduced and stamina thresholds have almost been doubled in order to allow longer grinds in melee to occur.
- Base melee hit change was increased slightly to make melee feel a bit more lethal.
- All javelins now have a slightly higher trajectory and are slower as projectiles to give them a weighted appearance.
This mod is in beta. Formation effects, unit armor and weapon damage, etc are all under review.

- This mod is only compatible with the Age of Justinian 555 mod and its extensions like Age of Belisarius. Do not use with other overhaul mods.
- To install, first subscribe to this mod, and place this mod above the ALL of the original AoJ parts in the mod launcher.
- If you are playing AoJ with other submods, simply place this mod above them. As long as AoJ does not change anything about the ottoman roster, this submod will work even on top of other submods that tweak the ottomans.
- Due to the constant development of AoJ, I cannot promise this mod to be always save game compatible. Should AoJ change anything crucial to this mod’s function I will update things accordingly.
