Final Hours – Berlin
ATTENTION: This map contains over 10,000 entities. It will not just load up instantly like many of the smaller maps available. Once you load the mission, the game will "freeze" up for about a full minute or two as moving entities such as flags and trees moving in the wind sync up properly. The game should return to it’s normal functioning speed once these sync, I am sorry it is out of my control. Also if you block the southern most road that runs east to west the way points may freak out and cause a tank dog pile at the starting way point. Special thanks to my friends for showing interest and pushing me to complete this project in a little over 3 weeks!! Let me know what you think by leaving a rating please 😀
It is April 27, 1945, and as the rain falls on the debris covered streets of Berlin, so does the reign of the 3rd Reich under the might of the vengeful Red army. Get behind the sights of Germany’s last desperate defenders as the streets fill with the sounds of soviet troops and armor pushing North towards the Reichstag. The fight for you is no longer about politics and banners, but loyalty, as well as survival.
Historically on the morning of April 28, General Pavel S. Rybalko’s 3rd Guards Tank Army attached to Marshal Ivan S. Konev’s 1st Ukrainian Front would cross the Landwehrkanal from the southwest launching its preliminary bombing of the troops across the canal. Only after some time was he informed that the enemy troops were really men of Colonel General Vasily I. Chuikov 8th Guards Army who were attached to the 1st Byelorussian Front of Marshal Georgy K. Zhukov. Much to his disappointment, Konev realized that Zhukov had overtaken him and Rybalko would be forced to turn west leaving General Zhukov the honor of conquering the Reichstag.
This map is a loose 1 to 1 scale recreation of the Güntzelkiez district in South Western Berlin using google maps, pictures from various sources, and some imagination. The Landwehrkanal is approximately 1.75 kilometers North of this map for reference. I saw a picture of a Tiger II tank located on Pariser st. in Berlin and I wanted to recreate a battle using that setting (apparently Tiger 311 was damaged on the 23, April and was abandoned sometime after around Wilmersdorf in the West). Three weeks and a fair amount of research later and here we are… I hope you enjoy it. Feel free to send me cool screenshots and edit the map to your heart’s content.
For a better playing experience I would recommend either "CHKL Long Range Combat" mod by Chakal16 for better ranges and armor penetration values or the "Long Range Combat" mod by MaGlas for better ranges alone. Mission was made with vanilla ranges but the extra reach can help with survivability. If there are any other concerns or desires from the community for this mission, feel free to comment or message me and I will look into adding stuff. Still currently a college student but I will happily take suggestions since my mind is already trying to determine my next city map project.
