Rintamamiestalo – 50s single family home
After world war 2 the Finnish government had a monumental task ahead of them. To house people who were displaced by the war and those who returned from the frontlines. Land acquisition law was enacted in 1945 which saw the planning of 100 000 farms and lots of land for rebuilding efforts through the 50s.
The law also set up a long term loan system for house builders to recieve a lot and ready made plans for a house. Here I feature 2 very similar houses of this era, one prototype from 1937 and the second an average in my vision of the most common types that populate all the cities and towns of Finland in a huge cultural phenomenon.
The house itself is a very no frills type of construction out of necessity. I tried to include all sorts of color variations and a lot of fine detail up close to capture the true soul of the RINTAMAMIESTALO.
