Description:

Modifies the material properties and smelting process of alloys, making them more useful and realistic.

Vanilla has a decent alloy system already, but I felt like I wanted to make some changes to give myself more reasons to make them in the first place. A lot of the vanilla alloys have no benefit (for example, making Black Bronze provided no increase to the value of the metal and wasted your fuel in the process).

Important changes:

– New metal "antimony" added. Low value, but can be used to create very high value pewter or metal crafts and furniture. In real life, antimony comes from stibnite and it’s been used to make pewter. Stibnite already exists in DF, but it was just a boring stone that you couldn’t do much with.

– Value of alloys changed. Now you’ll always get more value with your metal if you take the time and fuel to smelt it into an alloy. Some alloys have bigger increases than others.

– No longer able to smelt alloys directly from ores. That feature can be really weird with multi-metal ores like galena, and it helps balance out the difference in fuel/labor consumption.

– In the smelter menu, there is a number at the end of each reaction that tells you how many bars are made.

– Crafting of alloys changed a little. Some alloys require lots of bars to make because of the ratio of metals in the alloy. For example, bismuth bronze requires 9 bronze bars and 1 bismuth bar to craft, but you will get 10 bismuth bronze bars for the price of 1 fuel.

– Pewters are a little different. I removed "trifle pewter" from the game entirely and left two types of pewter, "lay pewter" and "fine pewter". Lay pewter requires lead, but it’s only moderately valuable. Fine pewter requires antimony, but it’s a very high value alloy.

– Weight of alloys changed. The weight is directly determined by the weight of metals in the alloy. An alloy that is 90% copper and 10% tin will weigh a little bit less than copper due to the tin being lighter.

-Brass: 2 copper + 1 zinc, material value 4, vanilla value 7 (nerfed this one a little but its still great)
-Bronze: 9 copper + 1 tin, material value 5, vanilla value 5 (no need to change value from vanilla)
-Billon: 3 copper + 2 silver, material value 6, vanilla value 6 (new ore ratio makes it better)
-Rose gold: 3 gold + 1 copper, material value 26, vanilla value 23
-Electrum: 1 gold + 1 silver, material value 24, vanilla value 20
-Nickel silver: 3 copper + 1 zinc + 1 nickel, material value 5, vanilla value 3
-Sterling silver: 9 silver + 1 copper, material value 11, vanilla value 8
-Black bronze: 8 copper + 1 gold + 1 silver, material value 8, vanilla value 11 (new ore ratio makes it way better)
-Bismuth bronze: 9 bronze + 1 bismuth, material value 6, vanilla value 6 (new ore ratio makes it better)
-Fine pewter: 8 tin + 1 antimony + 1 copper, material value 8, vanilla value 5
-Lay pewter: 8 tin + 1 lead + 1 copper, material value 5, vanilla value 3

Removed trifle pewter because a reaction that is just tin + copper would compete directly with bronze and I think two types of pewter is all that’s needed.

Mod compatibility: Should be compatible with most mods. If you have a mod that uses CUT_ENTITY on MOUNTAIN or PLAINS, just make sure this mod is loaded after that one so the changes aren’t cut, otherwise you won’t be able to smelt stibnite. This mod also removes trifle pewter, which may or may not be relevant depending on your other mods, it’s rarely ever modified.
