Description:

Prevents soldiers and faction heroes from being generated with or wearing incorrect faction headgear. It does not affect the original XCOM2 non-faction helmets, nor does it affect cosmetics added by mods. -Only- the stock WOTC faction helmet cosmetics are affected. However, if you’re comfortable editing configs, then helmets added by other mods can be made faction-only by using the same method. See the XComContent.ini for details.

But WHY?

Because it annoys me when XCOM soldiers cosplay Skirmishers or Templars. I think it looks dumb and it’s been a pet peeve of mine with WOTC since the very beginning. Randomly generated abominations (such as the one in the mod screenshot) ruin my enjoyment of the game. So there you have it. That’s why.

Important Details

Reaper hoods A & D can still be used by anyone, because they’re just plain hoods with no masks. If you’re even more anal retentive than I am, you can edit the ini to make them Reaper-only as well.

The faction helmets in the customization menus ingame may be shifted down towards the bottom of the list, so don’t freak out if they aren’t where you expect them to be. Just keep scrolling until you see them. I’m not sure there’s anything I can do to force them to appear at the top of the list.

Boring Details

This is a very simple mod.

Since the original Tier 1 template names remain unchanged, existing characters in the Character Pool shouldn’t be adversely affected by adding this mod unless they are currently wearing a helmet belonging to a different faction. In that case, they may possibly have the offending helmet taken away, but otherwise their appearance should remain the same. Likewise, removing the mod shouldn’t mess up your character pool either.

To make this mod work and STILL be compatible with other mods, I replicated the original templates for each of the stock WOTC faction helmets into separate T2 & T3 templates. It was the only way I could see to do it without risking override conflicts with other mods. So that means you might have to tweak a Reaper/Skirmisher/Templar’s appearance customization and re-add his helmet if you install this mod mid-campaign. Personally, I tweak my soldiers appearance anyway every time I get a new armor upgrade, so I don’t consider it a big deal.

Compatibility

Unless another mod messes with the stock WOTC faction helmet templates, there shouldn’t be any conflicts. The only mod that I know of that does is "Free The Hood," but by default the WOTC entries in FTH are disabled. So FTH shouldn’t have any effect on this mod unless you manually edited FTH’s .ini at some point and uncommented those lines.

Also, bear in mind the whole point of this mod is to restrict customization, so it probably won’t work well with the "Unrestricted Customization" mod. I prefer that randomly generated characters not look like they just robbed a thrift store, so I don’t use UC. I do however highly recommend "Clean Soldier Generation" by Iridar.
