Southern Lake Baikal (Siberia)
Southern Lake Baikal
Southern tip of the famous Lake Baikal! The largest freshwater lake in the world by volume. Perfect for the new water update *wink*.This place is usually home to two towns Slyudyanka and Kultuk. Many resources in the hilly surrounding countryside. Realistically placed customs houses 2 for Soviet and 1 for NATO. Lake Baikal is an ancient, massive lake in the mountainous Russian region of Siberia, north of the Mongolian border. Considered the deepest lake in the world, it’s circled by a network of hiking paths called the Great Baikal Trail. The village of Listvyanka, on its western shoreline, is a popular starting point for summertime wildlife-spotting tours, plus wintertime ice-skating and dog sledding.Lake Baikal lies in a deep structural hollow surrounded by mountains, some of which rise more than 6,600 feet (2,000 metres) above the lake’s surface. The sedimentary strata on the floor of the lake may be as much as 20,000 feet (6,100 metres) thick. Breaks in Earth’s crust produce hot mineral springs in the area.
